Putin has extended an invitation to the president of Mongolia to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended an invitation to Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh to attend the BRICS summit scheduled to take place in Kazan, Russia, this October.
During his visit to Ulaanbaatar, Putin expressed his desire for President Khurelsukh to join the summit, which will be a significant event following BRICS’ recent expansion. He stated, “I would like to invite you to Kazan, Russia, where the BRICS summit will be held this year. This will be the first major event since the expansion of BRICS, and I hope you will participate in the BRICS+ format. We look forward to your presence.”
Putin’s visit to Mongolia came at President Khurelsukh’s request and was in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Soviet-Mongolian victory over militarist Japan at the Khalkhin Gol River.
Since January, Russia has held the rotating presidency of BRICS and plans to host 250 events across 11 Russian regions, culminating in the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
BRICS, originally formed in 2009 to foster cooperation among major emerging economies, initially included Brazil, Russia, India, and China. South Africa joined in 2010, and on January 1, 2024, the group expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
