PTI matriculates 1,267 students in Delta State
The Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun Warri Delta State at the weekend organised a combined Matriculation Ceremony for one thousand two hundred and sixty seven students (1267) for the 20021/2022 Academic Session for both full time and School of Industrial Continuing Education Programme.
The Principal/Chief Executive Officer of PTI Effurun, Dr Henry Adimula, in his speech said PTl was established by Act NO 37 of 1972 and subsequently amended by Act No 52 of 1975 by FA CAP P16, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 which mandated the Institute to provide courses of instruction, training and research in technology and in the development of Technologists and Technicians required for the Oil, gas and allied industries.
The PTI boss added that “the Institute’s Vision and Missions statement has been the guiding principles within which we operate as an Institute and I want you to know and imbibe them as you sojourn with us in good fate.
“The vision of PTI is to become the leading oil and gas technological Institute in Africa and maintain the tempo through continuous update of new frontiers of knowledge while our mission is to provide competent technological human resources through quality training, research and consultancy for the Petroleum and allied industry.
“The National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) has been introduced into the PTI educational system, essentially to develop, to classify and recognise skills knowledge and competence that is required by individuals irrespective of how the skills and training were acquired.”
He disclosed that the programme is a highbred certification System which has allowance for continuous training of competent hands for the Oil and gas industry, ensuring collaborative synergy between PTI and the oil and gas industry, noting that some of the staff of PTl have been certified as Assessors of the NSQF Programme.
While addressing the Matriculants specifically he said: “Let me at this juncture congratulate all the Matriculants who have been found suitable for admission into this unique citadel of leaning.
“Today’s event marks an important milestone in your lives as Matriculants, as it signifies your official admission into the Petroleum Training Institute after the completion of the registration formalities and the taking of the Matriculation oath at the end of this ceremony.”
He stressed the need for the students to avoid all sorts of behaviour capable of truncating their studentship.
He disclosed that the Matriculating students after passing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the Post Jamb for the National Diploma and the HND Interviews for the HND candidates, the Matriculating students are amongst the successful Lucky ones as a total of 1,480 candidates applied for admission into the National Diploma programmes, but only 720 candidates were offered admission while for the Higher National Diploma programmes, 714 candidates applied , but only 547 candidates were offered admission.
