Protesters in Jigawa State have looted a fertilizer store in Birnin Kudu, accusing the government of neglecting the plight of the poor.

The protesters, who were part of a nationwide demonstration against bad governance, broke into the store and made away with hundreds of bags of fertilizer meant for farmers.

“We are hungry and we need food, not fertilizer,” said one of the protesters. The government has abandoned us and we have to take matters into our own hands.”

The protesters also accused the state government of not doing enough to address the needs of the poor, despite federal interventions.

“The state government has received funds from the federal government but has not used it to benefit the people,” said another protester. “Instead, they have used it to appoint special assistants and buy cars,” they said.

The protesters vowed to continue their peaceful demonstration for ten days, saying they would not be silenced.

In Hadejia, another group of protesters suspected to be thugs set fire to motorcycles and cars meant for distribution to political supporters.

Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the protest in Birnin Kudu, and several people were injured.

The police have arrested several suspects in connection with the violence and are investigating the incident.

The Jigawa State Government has yet to comment on the matter.
