Probe ex-service chiefs PDP, Fayose tell Buhari as APC supports new chiefs

Following the sack of the service chiefs after five years and five months by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has called for investigation of Ex-service chiefs by Buhari and other relevant authorities referencing the alleged human rights abuses and destruction done against Nigerians under their watch.

PDP’s, National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement yesterday described the appointment of the new Service Chiefs as late. However went on to call for the probe of the sacked Service Chiefs,

“the PDP demands an immediate inquest into the tenure of the last service chiefs to unravel the circumstances behind the security lapses and compromises as well as accusation of involvement in the alleged looting of funds meant for the equipping and welfare of our troops in the front.

“Our party insists that such must be the sure step towards sanitizing the security architecture as well as lifting the morale of those in the front lines risking their lives for the security of our nation.

Similarly, Fayose who shared on his official Twitter handle also called for a probe into the human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings during their time in office

“It is my call to the ICC and other relevant authorities that the tenure of the “sacked” service chiefs should be investigated, most importantly human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings under their watch and commands.

In another development, the All Progressive Congress, APC has given a rousing welcome to the newly appointed service chiefs in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Udoedeghe who said the APC “welcomes the appointment of new service chiefs following the resignation and retirement of the outgoing service chiefs.

“We are confident that the new service chiefs will consolidate on the remarkable achievements of their predecessors in keeping the country safe and peaceful.”

Meanwhile, Major-General Leo Irabor, has replaced General Abayomi Olonisakin, Chief of Defence Staff since July 2015.

Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo replaced Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe, Chief of Naval Staff.

Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, has replaced Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
