President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sympathized with the government and people of Jigawa State over the recent flooding that has affected 14 local government areas in the state.

The President’s sympathy message was delivered on Saturday by the Minister of Defence, Alh Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, at the Government House in Dutse.

The Minister assured the Jigawa State government of continuous support to reduce the plights of the victims. He explained that this year’s flooding in Jigawa started in July, earlier than usual, due to heavy downpour that lasted for seven days, and not from the release of the Tiga and Bagauda Dams in Kano State.

The flash flooding has submerged houses and farmlands, leaving victims in horrific living conditions. So far, the flood has resulted in 33 fatalities, 7,500 collapsed houses, 11,500 submerged farmlands, and affected 148 communities across the 14 local government areas.

President Tinubu, represented by the Defence Minister, pledged that the Federal Government will stand with Jigawa State in this trying moment. Jigawa State Governor, Mal Umar Namadi, appreciated the President’s support and stated that he has been working to ensure that victims are supported and provided with necessary comfort.

The Minister, in his personal capacity as a former Governor of Jigawa State and indigene, announced a personal donation of N20 million to support the victims.
