President Buhari expresses grief over deaths in Gujarat Bridge collapse

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India following reports that at least 141 people have died after a British-era bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed on Sunday evening.

Recall that over 100 people were killed when a suspension bridge collapsed over a river in western India.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening in Morbi in the western Indian State of Gujarat.

Apart from those that died, 177 of the 500 missing have been saved and teams are searching for several others.

Reacting, Buhari, in a statement by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, on Monday, prayed for the recovery of all the persons who suffered injuries.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I wish to express my profound sorrow and sincere sympathy to the Prime Minister, families of the deceased, and the people of India following this tragic incident,” Buhari said.
