President Buhari congratulates eight Nigerian-Americans on electoral victory in US

Eight Nigerian-Americans made historical achievements and brightened the prospect of the country in faraway United States of America winning their legislative seats on Tuesday night during the Georgia, Pennsylvania and Minnesota states elections.

They included Solomon Adesanya, Segun Adeyina, Phil Olaleye, Gabe Okoye, Tish Naghise, Carol Kazeem, Esther Agbaje and Oye Owolewa.

The State of Georgia general elections were held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, while runoffs would be held on a later date for other races that are yet to be decided by majority votes.

President Mohammadu Buhari, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, congratulated the candidates on their victory, while urging Nigerians in the Diaspora to always endeavor to make the country proud in faraway countries. The President assured Nigerians aboard of his unflinching support to their good endeavors that would place the country on a platter of gold.

Also, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in her congratulatory message said: “These Nigerian Americans won their elections in Georgia last night. A hearty congrats to them all. #ProudlyNigerian.”

The Georgia candidates Solomon Adesanya, Segun Adeyina, Phil Olaleye, Gabe Okoye and Tish Naghise were all Democratic Party candidates for Georgia State House of Representatives, while Carol Kazeem was a Democratic Party candidate in Pennsylvania State Representative and Esther Agbaje was a candidate for the Minnesota State Representative. Oye Owolewa was elected in November 2020 as a shadow representative of the United States House of Representatives from the District of Colombia and also won a reelection to the seat on Tuesday night.
