Preach peace at all times – Sultan advices Muslims

By Taofeek Lawal, Abuja

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Muslims to continue to be agents of positive change and promote the tenets of Islamic religion at all times.

The monarch, who is the President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), stated this over the weekend at the commissioning of Abdul Lateef Adegbite Jumat Mosque, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja. The mosque was built by the Muslims’ Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), and named after Adegbite.

The Sultan called on politicians and philanthropists to commit their wealth to the growth of Islam and most especially for the downtrodden as the Ramadan (fasting) commences all over the world this week. He, however, commended the Mosque Management Committee for their commitment in bringing the mosque to fruition and urged them to seek more funds from wealthy Muslim individuals to complete other projects on the site. “I want to urge all Muslims to continue to hold on to the tenets of Islam and preach peace at all times. The MSSN has been a unifying factor for Muslims in this country since inception and it is also the flagship of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria. I call on wealthy people among us to see that other very important projects on this site are completed on time too,” the Sultan said.

MSSN President, Dr Taofeek Yekeen, described the mosque project as a mission accomplished and said other projects  to be included are the national secretariat complex, the nursery and the primary school, the secondary school, sports centre, the shopping complex, accommodation complex for the Imam and exclusive fitness centre  for female Muslims.

He said MSSN will explore all avenues to attract private investors and wealthy individuals to support and finance the project for the benefit of all.

He said, “This mosque will serve as a model centre for unity and will attract people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and different orientation and forge unity among them such that we can be a model to be replicated elsewhere wherever we have Juma’at mosque all over the country.”
