Power minister inaugurates ecological fund projects in Wukari University

The Minister of Power Alhaji Saleh Mamman on Friday inaugurated various projects at Federal University, Wukari, which were executed by the Ecological Fund Office.

Reports state that the projects include 3.54 kilometer roads, drainages, culverts and several other erosion control facilities within the university community.

Performing the inauguration ceremony in Wukari, the minister who represented President Muhammad Buhari, explained that the project was part of the 16 federal government’s ecological intervention projects approved by the president for the third quarter of 2018.

He said the contract was awarded by the Federal Executive Council in March 2019 to Messrs Munaish Investment Limited and expected to address the devastating effects of erosion and flood in the university.

“I have no doubts in my mind that this Federal Government’s intervention will bring huge relief generally to the university community which for a very long time has been stressed by the ecological challenges.

“The approval of this project by Mr President is in fulfilment of the present administration’s promise that no part of the country will suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political affiliation,” Mamman said.

Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba, represented by the Deputy Governor, Malam Haruna Manu, while appreciating the gesture, urged the Federal Government to intervene in other local government areas of the state so as to control their erosion challenges.

The governor, who was full of praises for the Federal Government’s equitable distribution of projects to all states, also emphasised the need for further engagement with the state government.

Similarly, Prof. Musa Kundiri, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Wukari described the project as a strategic plan to control erosion in the university.
