POS operator docked over alleged N446,300 fraud in Abuja

A 27-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Blessing Chinwuba, on Friday appeared before an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, over alleged N446,300 fraud.

Chinwuba of No 25 Jerusalem Street, Old Kutunku Gwagwalada, is being charged for criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the matter was reported at Gwagwalada Police Station by one Amos Obidah of Green House Estate, Kurudu Nyanya, Abuja, sometime in January.

Yakubu alleged that the complainant, sometime in January, entrusted Chinwuba with the sum of N446,300 to start a POS business.

He said the defendant registered the business but had yet to remit any profit or return the capital to the complainant.

Yakubu alleged that the defendant could not also give satisfactory account of how the money was spent.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 311 and 320 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Umar said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and the address must be known to the court and must be verified by the court staff.

He said the surety must also provide means of identification, including two passport photographs, or in default, the defendant should be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre, Abuja.

He adjourned the case until March 8 for hearing.
