Polls: Police warn of grave consequences for trouble makers in C/River

The Police Command in Cross River says it has taken water-tight security measures to protect voters and election officials on Saturday.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, SP Irene Ugbo, on Wednesday in Calabar, said the assurance was given by the Commissioner in charge of the elections, Aliyu Garba.

Garba warned trouble makers of grave consequences if they disrupt the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

“Any individual or group of persons under any guise who may want to disrupt the elections or forment any kind of trouble should desist, because the consequences are grave,” the Commissioner said.

Garba also assured political parties, candidates, supporters, stakeholders, the electorate and election officials of adequate security.

He said that the people should exercise their civic rights without any fear of molestation.

“In conjunction with all other security agencies in the state, a water-tight security architecture has been designed and emplaced for the purposes of ensuring the safety and security of all and sundry in Cross River,” he added.

9,000 police personnel have been drafted to provide security for the elections across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
