Police verify kidnapping of naval officer and 7 others in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom Police command has confirmed the abduction of a naval officer and seven others in Ibaka Local Government Area. ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified the incident in an interview on Tuesday in Eket.

According to John, the victims were abducted on Monday at Classic Point Hotel, Ibaka, where they were relaxing. She stated that CP Waheed Ayilara, the Commissioner of Police, promptly led a team of officers to the community upon receiving the report.

“The Commissioner of Police has already visited the community with a team of security personnel. I can assure you that normalcy will be restored with the Commissioner’s visit and other strategic measures being implemented,” she assured.

John noted that the abductors took the victims to an undisclosed location. In response, Sub.-Lt. Nasiru Omar, the Base Information Officer, mentioned he had not received official information about the abduction yet.

“I am not aware of the incident; until it’s official, I cannot provide any details,” he stated.
