Police thwart extra judicial killings of suspected kidnappers in Kano
A Joint Security Task Force in Riga community of Gwarzo Local Government area of Kano State has thwarted a mob action on two suspected kidnappers by hundreds of irate youths carrying dangerous weapons.
The youths in their numbers tried manhandling the two suspected kidnappers after they were arrested on allegations they were behind several abductions of innocent indigenes in the area.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after an emergency Security Meeting, the Acting Chairman of the Council, Dr Mani Tsoho who was visibly shocked by the attack by the youths who vandalised vehicles belonging to security agencies called for calm and ordered immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
He called on the people of the area to be law-abiding citizens by not taking laws into their hands in the future.
he said, “The right thing to do is to hand over the suspected criminals to police for investigations and prosecutions,” he said.
According to a member of the Riga community, Shugaba Sani Mato, the two suspected kidnappers, whose names are withheld, hail from Katsina State.
They were alleged to have been unleashing mayhem and terrorizing the community for a long time until luck ran out on them.
Mato added that the Riga community in Kutama ward shared a border with Katsina State.
On his part the director of personnel management Gwarzo local government Alh. Ubale Magaji said the local government council has ordered the repairs of two vandalised security vehicles, urging for the unconditional release of twenty-two arrested Riga community youths from police custody.
He highlighted that immediate border patrol by security agencies has been directed with the cost of logistics taken care of by the council.
In his remarks the district head of Gwarzo Barde Kerarriyya Alh. Shehu Kabiru Bayero commended security personnel’s efforts in restoring normalcy to the affected community.
