Police seal Jigawa assembly, as impeachment plot thickens

By Umar Akilu Majeri, Dutse

Officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday sealed the Jigawa state assembly, Nigerian NewsDirect can authoritatively report.

This is as the seal is not unconnected with the plot to unseat the current Speaker of the House.

Our investigations revealed that the process which started in Kano at one of the famous Hotel Rooms yesterday,  while the Speaker was out of the country for an official assignment with Jigawa state Governor Namadi and also to perform the ummura pilgrimage at the holy land, Mecca .

It was reliably gathered that the impeachment is a result of the Speaker being accused of personalising affairs of the Assembly, while attaching himself to Governor Umar Namadi, allegedly abandoning his primary responsibilities as the Speaker of the state house.

It was gathered that as the police got to know about the plan by some of the aggrieved members, the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa state command A T Abdullahi directed police officers and members of the civil defense to take over the state assembly.

Our reporter who visited the Assembly saw the security at the main entrance stopping all senior officers working at the Assembly from entering.

As the police took over the assembly, speculation went on in the state that the impeachment process was allegedly sponsored by a highly political class in the state to impeach the speaker.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations officer, Lawan Shisu Adam confirmed that the police took over the State Assembly in order to avert insecurity, based on a tip they had received.
