Police refute terror attack in Kano community
The Kano State Police Command has completely denied terror attacks in any part of the state.
The Command described as untrue and malicious the report that there was a terror attack in a Kano community and described it as a fiction of some people’s imagination.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Spokesman for the Command, in a statement described the news report as a calculated attempt to disrupt the peace and stability currently being enjoyed in the entire state and urged the people to contact the police for any unwanted movement.
The state PPRO called on Kano residents to disregard the report and enjoined citizens to go about their normal and legitimate businesses without fear, assuring that the Command had already mapped out strategies and remained focused towards ensuring adequate security in the state.
Haruna said the police are always on alert with other security agencies to guarantee the protection of the lives and property of citizens within and outside the environs.
The PPRO’s statement read, “On 29th October 2022, there was an online publication credited to one Bridget Edokwe of an online news outlet, barristering, alleging that ‘terrorists invaded a Kano community, sacked residents, burned houses,’ the story was maliciously concocted to create fear, mischief, disrepute and disrupt the peace being enjoyed in Kano State.”
The statement also added that on 18th August 2022 at about 1100hrs, a report was received from a resident of Rogo local government area of Kano State and on the same date at about 0900hrs, some youths from Barbaji and Unguwar Hudu Villages of Rogo local government area suspecting that youths from neighbouring Fulani settlement attacked one Abdulamjid Musa, ‘m’, of Unguwar Hudu and made away with his TVS Motorcycle, went to the Fulani Settlement named Dan Janfare Village and set ablaze the residence of one Magaji Wakili and Ibrahim Bala.
The statement further explained that the youths also destroyed the residence of one Ibrahim Abdullahi and Hussaini Danfulani, saying that on receipt of the report, a team of Policemen led by CSP Aminu S. Wurno, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rogo Division was mobilised to the scene.
He said the fire was brought under control and normalcy was immediately restored, stressing that seven (7) suspects were arrested and subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court, Number 29, Nomansland Kano on 31st August 2022 for Criminal Conspiracy, inciting disturbance, criminal trespass, mischief and mischief by fire.
The seven suspects are Murtala Doro, Idris Wanzam, Mohammed Muntari, Rilwanu Yahaya, Tarmizu Adamu, Aminu Magaji, and Ashara Adamu, all of Unguwar Hudu Village, Rogo local government area.
The statement enjoined the people of Kano State to verify facts before informing the public, saying the police and other security agencies will maintain the low crime rate and peaceful atmosphere enjoyed in the state.
The statement warned mischief makers to desist from publishing fake, malicious and concocted news aimed at misleading the public and destabilizing the peace in the state.
