Police prohibit open street carnivals in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has announced that youth and street carnivals planned for the yuletide have been prohibited.
The Command also disclosed that it is acting upon intelligence made available to it which suggests that miscreants, under the guise of street carnival, planned to cause mayhem.
In a press release signed by Yemisi Opalola, the command spokesperson, the police enjoined all organisers of carnivals to hire or use gated compounds to celebrate their festivals.
“Intelligence availed the Command suggests that miscreants under the guise of street carnival plan to carry out mayhem; as such, the Command is using this forum to inform the general public that streets carnival will not be tolerated in whatever form or guise.
“Therefore, all organizers of carnivals are enjoined to hire halls or use gated compounds to carry out/celebrate their festival.
“Parents/guardians are equally warned to advise their children/wards to desist from any act that could jeopardize the peace of this season,” it read.
While advising the residents of the state to go about their legitimate business and celebrate peacefully, the command also warned that anyone caught or found wanting would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
