Police parade 13 suspected criminals for drug trafficking, armed robbery, others
Thirteen suspected criminals have been paraded by the Ekiti State Police Command for various offences ranging from drug trafficking, armed robbery, rape and conspiracy.
The suspects were paraded with various items recovered from them, including household items, power-generating sets and forty bags of cannabis sativa.
Operatives of the Juvenile Women Center (JWC) attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, Ekiti State Police Command, also paraded a couple, Olomolaye Sesan and his wife Kehinde, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl and causing her grievous harm.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Sunday Abutu, who paraded the couple alongside other criminals at the command headquarters along Iyin, Ado-Ekiti, said the victim, a student of a public Secondary School in Ilawe-Ekiti, is a younger sister to Kehinde Olomolaye who stays with her and hawks goods.
The Ekiti State Police Command spokesperson said Kehinde Olomolaye connived with her husband to rape the victim many times.
The couple, according to the PPRO are currently helping the police on the investigation while they have equally confessed to the commission of the crime.
He said they would be arranged before a judge as soon as possible.
In a related development, the police also paraded a 43-year-old Islamic cleric, Saliu Rasak, for allegedly defiling two teenage girls in Agbado-Ekiti, Gbonyin local government area of the state.
The police said the victims had approached the cleric in a quest for spiritual favour and later visited his residence for more spiritual power.
The suspected cleric who is currently undergoing interrogations was alleged to have given them a certain soap and claimed that the victims were going to be receiving favour after bathing with the soap.
The victims were then lured to the cleric’s residence, where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of them as part of the conditions for the soap to work effectively.
The police also paraded a 23-year-old ex-convict, Omoniyi Ajayi, over the alleged burglaries of two houses belonging to two different people, along Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
Items recovered from the suspect include a generator, three seater chair, foodstuff, a gas cylinder, a rug, clothes and a cash sum of twenty-five thousand naira.
The police also paraded a gang of armed robbers numbering about five at Oke-Ako, Itapaji-Ekiti area of Ajoni Local Council Development Areas.
The suspects were alleged to have forcefully stormed the sleepy community and started shooting sporadically into the air before they attacked the residence of one Kehinde Kazeem in an attempt to kidnap him.
The kidnap was, however, voided by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the suspects arrested.
Abutu said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime and mentioned other members of the gang who are currently at large.
