The Plateau State Police Command has recovered 77 cows rustled from a herder in the Wase Local Government Area of the state by yet-to-be-identified persons.
This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, in Jos, the state capital on Wednesday.
He said, “On 19th September 2023, we received credible information at the Bashar Police Division that a certain number of cows belonging to one Alhaji Idris Yunusa, the Galadiman Yuli Duguri, had been rustled by unknown criminals on 11th September 2023, from Gajin Duguri village, Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State.
“According to the intelligence report, the cows were rustled from a herder while grazing and moved towards Odare forest of Kampani Zurak village, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
“On receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bashar Division, CSP Atiku Yahaya, immediately led a team of policemen who in conjunction with some VGN personnel and Hunters, intercepted the culprits.
“On sighting the Policemen, the culprits fled into the nearby forests”, he explained.
“However, 77 cows were recovered and released to the owner.”
The police assured that efforts have been intensified to arrest the culprits and ensure that they face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Julius Alawari, reassured citizens of the state of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
“Our hunt for criminals remain unwavering”, he said.
The police boss called on residents of the state to be security conscious, report any suspicious activities or persons, and provide useful, timely, and accurate information to help in the fight against crime and criminality in the State.
