Police foil kidnap attempt, kill suspected gunman in Adamawa
Police in Adamawa State successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and killed one of the suspected gunmen.
The Adamawa Police Command released a statement on Wednesday, revealing that their operatives, along with local hunters, carried out an operation on September 6, 2023.
The operation aimed to prevent the kidnapping of a businessman named Gideon Bitrus, who resides in Jangra village in Gombi local government area.
Upon receiving the information about the planned crime, the police command swiftly deployed a security ring around the target.
They engaged the suspected kidnappers, effectively preventing them from carrying out their criminal act. The operation resulted in the death of one of the gunmen.
The police command’s quick response and collaboration with local hunters played a crucial role in foiling the kidnapping attempt and ensuring the safety of the targeted businessman.
“The five gang men were engaged in a gun duel. As a result, one was neutralized as others escaped with bullet wounds,” the statement said.
It added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola who commended the DPO Gombi, his men and the hunters for the gallantry that resulted to the crime prevention, directed them to sustain the tempo as a strategy for further crime fighting.
“The CP calls on the populace to always inform the police of the whereabouts of criminals, especially those treating wounds,” the statement added.
It said a locally made pistol, three cartridges, some charms and a sum of N2,700 were recovered from the suspects.
