Police detain officer in viral video of Okoya’s sons ‘abusing naira’

The Nigeria Police Force says its officer captured in a viral video where the Nigeria’s local currency, naira was abused has been identified and detained.

Newsmen reports that a video clip that captured the officer alongside a businessman, identified simply as Chief Okoya, recently went viral.

In the video, the officer was sighted giving aide to the businessman while the currency was being abused.

NPF in a terse statement on its official Facebook page on Friday said the officer has been taken into custody for subsequent disciplinary action.

The post reads, “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.

“The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical.

“We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police”.

Meanwhile, it is unclear if the primary suspect has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
