Police detain five suspected kidnappers, seize ammunition

The Delta Police Command has detained five persons suspected of kidnapping in the Ughelli South Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made last Thursday at the suspects’ hideout in Ewu town, Ughelli South, and were reported on Tuesday in Warri.
Edafe stated that the suspected criminals were apprehended by the police crack team assigned to the Ughelli Area Command, following a tip-off.
He added that during questioning, the suspects confessed to kidnapping and subsequently releasing a 70-year-old woman after receiving a ransom of N7.9 million.
On September 12, 2024, the crack squad from the Ughelli Area Command, acting on a tip-off, raided a brothel and criminal hideout in Ewu town, leading to the arrest of five suspects.
The suspects admitted to involvement in several armed robbery and kidnapping incidents in Ughelli and surrounding areas. This includes the abduction of a 70-year-old woman on September 8, for which they received N7.9 million in ransom before her release,” Edafe reported.
The spokesperson reported that the items recovered from the suspects include a single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size guns, and N450,000.
Also, the police seized a Moniepoint POS machine, an OPAY POS machine, and several wraps of substances believed to be Cannabis sativa.
Edafe noted that the suspects are currently in custody while the investigation continues.
