The Plateau State Police Command has debunked a bomb explosion report by residents in the early hours of Tuesday at Terminus Market Axis of Jos North.

The worried residents said that they suspected a shallow hole contained an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along Muritala Way, near the Old JUTH fence.

This rumour of the powerful explosion was spread on social media, and caused panic among residents of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina reacted to the disturbing speculation in a statement released to journalists after visiting the market.

Adesina said he ordered the Area Commander Metro and the Officer in Charge of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to deploy bomb technicians to the scene, after receiving the report.

The team was also joined by the Divisional Police Officer of “C” Division, who assessed and took control of the situation. The EOD team examined the spot and confirmed that there were no explosive devices in the hole.

“On reaching the scene, the area was immediately cordoned and our EOD Team began examination. Upon conclusion of the examination, the hole was found to be safe and free of any explosive devices.”

CP Adesina, along with his management team, conducted an on-site assessment of the situation. He commended the local residents for their vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement during the operation.
