The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered the immediate commencement of an orderly room trial of the entire team of the  police officers seen in a viral video assaulting a suspect that was resisting arrest.

The incident unfolded following reports of rampant drug abuse on Makinde Odewale Street, Oregun, prompting officers from the Alausa Division to intervene on July 2, 2024.

However, the operation met fierce resistance, resulting in serious injuries to an Inspector who was reportedly stabbed in the head with a broken bottle, alongside an assault on the Olu of Alausa and the CDA Chairman. The injured Inspector is currently hospitalised.

Despite the challenges, a reinforcement team managed to apprehend several suspects with suspected illicit substances.

Unfortunately, the manner in which the reinforcement team sought to detain the alleged perpetrator of the assault on the police officer was captured on video, depicting unprofessional conduct.

CP Fayoade unequivocally condemned the actions of the involved officers, emphasising that their behaviour contradicts the values and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force. He also denounced the assault on police officers by the youths involved, affirming that legal consequences await anyone found responsible.

Assuring the public, the Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order, preventing and investigating crime, and ensuring the prosecution of offenders.
