Police commissioner addresses students on conduct

The Commissioner of Police in Niger, Mr Monday Kuryas, has advised members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to uphold academic and moral excellence to achieve great feats.

Kuryas also enjoined them to shun misconduct, cultism, extortion, rape and illicit drug dealings during and after their studies.

He made the call on Thursday while receiving the the newly elected executives of the association led by its National President, Umar Lawal on courtesy visit to his office.

Kuryas urged them to utilise available scholarship schemes judiciously and not to abuse such privileges for the sake of others.

Kuryas advised the association to always adopt dialogue in resolving issues and shun any act of violence.

The commissioner urged the association to sensitive its members on need to report any person or group of people with questionable character to the nearest security outfits for necessary action.

Speaking earlier, Lawal appreciated the police for providing required security personnel during its just concluded convention in Abuja which produced the new executives of the association.

He said “there is need for effective partnership between the police and the students’ body for guidance, cooperation and protection of campuses”.

Lawal described the commissioner of police as student-friendly individual by his antecedents in attending to students’ matters.

The president lauded the commitment demonstrated by the Kuryas in tackling banditry and other criminality in the state.

“We will mobilise our teeming members on the need to be vigilant and support the police with required intelligence information that could aid in apprehending bad elements in our society”, he said.
