Police brutalise, detain NSCDC personnel for denying access to estate

There was pandemonium in Elizabeth Estate, Osogbo State capital of Osun, as Nigerian Police brutalized officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for denying them access to estate for not presenting warrant of arrest.

It was gathered that the police officers from Ataoja Police Division, Osogbo stormed the estate to execute arrest but they were denied access by the NSCDC officer who was on duty Wednesday.

Our Correspondent gathered that the NSCDC officer requested for the warrant of arrest from police officers who came with divisional patrol vehicle.

According to the video obtained by Newsdirect Correspondent the NSCDC officer was seen with handcuff on it right hand.

The police was seen in the video descend on NSCDC personnel in uniform holding gun.

One of the residents of the Elizabeth who sustained some injured in his head the clip said the men of Ataoja Police Division Osogbo invaded the estate on Wednesday afternoon to make an arrest, saying that police vehicle blocked the gate of estate after they were denied to access the estate.

He said, “on my way coming I saw police vehicle blocking the main gate to estate and harassing the NSCDC personnel.

“They were dragging him and the management of estate intervened but they don’t listen to them. They later reinforce and started beating everybody in the estate.

“They later took him away.”

Reacting to incident in a statement signed by Osun State Police Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Yemisi Opalola confirmed arrest the Civil Defence personnel who she said prevented assaulted the Police officers from performing their duty.

According to statement, “Osun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public and set the record straight that: Policemen came from Oyo State on investigation activities to an Estate in Osogbo to arrest a suspected criminal, they met Civil defence personnel guarding the place who prevented them from arresting the criminal and in the process; beat-up and injured two police officers and deflated the tires of their vehicle.

“The Policemen thereafter called for reinforcement from the nearest Division around the place. Upon arrival of the reinforcement, the Policemen were rescued and one of the Civil Defence personnel who assaulted the Police officers and prevented them from performing their lawful duty was arrested and taken to State CID for investigation.”
