Niger Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged unlawful possession of firearms, cattle rustling and kidnapping in parts of the state.
The suspects include one Musa Yakubu age 20 yrs of Kampani-Waya village via Kontagora and one Umar Mohammed (aka Babuga yellow) age 26 yrs of Gujape area of Beji village via Bosso LGA.
Parading the suspects, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said Musa Yakubu was intercepted and nabbed by officers on routine patrol along Zungeru-Minna road riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle.
He explained that when a search was conducted on the suspect six (6) locally fabricated guns without cartridges were found in his possession.
According to him, “during interrogation, he claimed to have bought the guns from someone he doesn’t know his name, but reside in the same village (Kampani-Waya)”
“He further claimed that he was taking the guns to one Adamu Ibrahim and Saidu Abubakar both of Beji village in Bosso LGA as effort is ongoing to apprehend the said Adamu, Saidu and the supplier”.
He also revealed that the second suspect Umar Mohammed suspected to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate was arrested at Garatu village, Bosso LG.
Abiodun stated that during interrogation,” he confessed to belonging to a group of bandits who specialized in cattle rustling and kidnapping for ransom. He mentioned other members of the gang as follows: Bokolore, Ruwance and Giware all presently at large”.
The state Police image maker further disclosed that the suspect confessed that the syndicate was planning to abduct two prominent persons in Garatu village, after a series of cattle rustling escapades perpetrated by the gang at different locations in Beji, Wushishi and Kataeregi.
He added that the two cases are under investigation as efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gangs.
