Police arrest three, recover ‘one chance’ operational vehicle

The Police command in Lagos State has arrested three men suspected to be members of a ‘one chance’ gang, operating along Oshodi–Gbagada Expressway, Lagos.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

‘One chance’ are cheats, ritualists and robbers who use tricks to deceive unsuspecting persons to board their vehicles and then harm the victims in the course of the journey.

Hundeyin identified the suspects as Wale Ajayi, 24; Abideen Saka, 26; and Oliseh Sunday aka Bobwhiskey, 29.

According to him, the suspects ran away and abandoned their vehicle when they were accosted by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

“They had abandoned their operational vehicle, a Suzuki mini bus popularly called ‘korope’ on April 14, 2023 when RRS operatives accosted them while trying to drop off a victim.

“The suspects were later arrested at their hideout following weeks of intensive investigation,” it stated.

According to Hundeyin, the suspects’ operational vehicle was hijacked at gunpoint in February.

“Investigation revealed that the suspects had earlier hijacked the operational vehicle at gunpoint at Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Ojo, in February and the incident was reported at Ijanikin Police Divisional Headquarters,” he said.

The police image-maker said that the suspects have been arraigned and remanded in prison.
