Police arrest suspected terrorism financier, others in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command on Tuesday arrested a suspected terrorism financier, Aminu Hassan of Dundubus, Danja Local Government Area of the state, who has been aiding armed bandits terrorising the Danmusa LG and its environs.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested on November 19, 2024, by the command’s operatives during a routine patrol along the Yantumaki and Kankara highway, and was found in possession of two pairs of military uniforms.

Similarly, the command arrested others in connection with the case — Lawal Ahmad, 29; Isma’il Dalhatu, 24; both from Zaria LG, Kaduna State; and Shafi’u Adamu, 28, from Danjaba Village, Soba LG, Kaduna.

While parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Katsina, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq stated that “fourteen pairs of military uniforms and one police uniform were recovered from the suspects, which are believed to be intended for delivery to the armed bandits for their criminal operations.”

He said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing the offence and would soon be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

“The Katsina State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in the state, with the arrest of one Aminu Hassan, m, age 25, of Dundubus, Danja LGA of Katsina State, a suspected terrorism financier who has been aiding armed bandits terrorising Danmusa LGA and its environs.

“The suspect was arrested on November 19, 2024, at about 1300hrs, Danmusa LGA, Katsina State, by operatives of the command during a routine patrol along Yantumaki and Kankara highway, in possession of two pairs of military uniforms neatly concealed in a black polythene bag.

“In the course of the investigation, three more suspects, namely: Lawal M. Ahmad, age 29; Isma’il Dalhatu, m, age 24, all of Basawa quarters, all of Sabon Gari, Zaria LGA, Kaduna; Shafi’u Adamu, m, age 28 of Danjaba village, Soba LGA, Kaduna State; were also arrested in connection with the case. Fourteen pairs of military uniforms and one police uniform were recovered from the suspects, which are believed to be intended for delivery to the armed bandits for their criminal operations,” he said.

Sadiq, therefore, added that the State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, while urging members of the public to continue to provide useful information that can aid in the fight against armed banditry in the state, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication to duty, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects.

In another development, the command, on November 25, 2024, succeeded in arresting seven suspected rapists.

Sadiq noted that the arrests followed the receipt of a report on their nefarious activities at the Kaita Divisional Police Headquarters, saying, “The suspects had been luring four minors within the ages of 13 and 14, into the house of one of the suspects, where they would then have unlawful carnal knowledge of them. Upon receipt of the report, detectives were detailed to investigate and succeeded in arresting the suspects.

“During the investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
