Police arrest suspect for stealing streetlight pole

Police Command in Enugu State have apprehended Aliyu Saad for allegedly stealing a streetlight pole in the New Artisan area. The suspect has been formally charged in connection with the theft.
The arrest and charge of Aliyu Saad were detailed in a statement issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer.
Aliyu Saad was apprehended on August 8, 2024, at 4:30 am by operatives from the New Haven Division, who acted on a tip-off regarding the theft.
The statement said “one Aliyu Saad, a male, was arrested on August 8, 2024, at around 4:30 a.m. by operatives from the Enugu State Police Command’s New Haven Division.”
He was charged on August 13, 2024, in the Enugu North Magistrates’ Court.
“The suspect was arrested for allegedly uprooting and stealing a streetlight pole at New Artisan, Enugu, following the operatives’ quick response to reliable information about the crime.
“This operational success follows directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), instructing police operatives to target unrepentant criminals, including those involved in vandalising public infrastructure in Enugu State.”
He has been charged in the Enugu North Magistrates’ Court and remanded in the Correctional Custodial Centre, Enugu, awaiting further proceedings.
“The CP encourages operatives to continue their efforts and urges the citizens of the State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any criminal activities to the nearest police station.”
