Police arrest notorious armed robber, recover AK-47 rifles, N4.9m

The Kano State Police Command achieved a significant victory in their fight against crime with the arrest of a notorious armed robber and the recovery.

Police in Kano have apprehended a notorious armed robber and recovered two AK-47 rifles with 47 rounds of live ammunition. The sum of Four Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand Naira (N4,986,000.00) was also recovered.

This was disclosed in a statement by SP Abdullahi Haruna kiyawa, according to a tweet from the Nigeria Police Force’s X, formerly Twitter, handle on Wednesday.

The operation unfolded after a distress call was made at approximately 2:00 AM from Yandadi Village, Kunchi Local Government Area. The victim reported that armed robbers had violently stormed his home, attacked him, and made off with Fifteen Million Naira (N15,000,000.00).

Despite the management of the ongoing nationwide protest, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, directed a team of detectives to conduct intelligence-led patrols to arrest the culprits and recover their operational weapons.

By 6:00 AM the same day, the detectives’ efforts bore fruit. They arrested the principal suspect, Hassan Iliya, a 35-year-old from Alhazawa Village, Musawa Local Government Area, Katsina State. Iliya was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene on a motorcycle.

A detailed search of the area where Iliya was detained led to the discovery of a sack containing two AK-47 rifles with 47 rounds of live ammunition. Additionally, Four Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand Naira (N4,986,000.00) of the stolen cash was recovered.
