The Police have arrested a man, Oneli, in Lagos for peddling counterfeit naira notes.
Oneli who almost escaped was pursued and caught by youths of the area who dragged him to the nearest police station.
During a search of the suspect N249,000, fake notes of 1,000 Naira notes were discovered in his possession.
Upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he bought the fake currency notes at Alaba market, Ojo, Lagos.
Oneli allegedly told the police, “I am a DVD casement seller at Alaba International market, Ojo, Lagos and I also buy fake 1,000 Naira notes from Femi Jacob, a fake money printer, who lives somewhere in Benue State, and also comes to supply in Lagos. ”I have been doing the business since 2021. Femi Jacob normally sells 8,000 Naira fake notes for N1,000 original notes and 16,000 Naira fake notes for original N2,000 notes.
“I exchange the fake notes for the original naira, through bus conductors and traders. I will board vehicles and give the conductor N1,000 Naira fake notes for a journey of N100 Naira and they will give me N900 Naira change.
“Before I move around Lagos the whole day I must have finished spending the whole fake notes in my possession and make enough profit.”
According to the Police, an investigation is ongoing: “Femi Jacob will be apprehended, and the suspect charged to court soon.”
