Police arrest fabricated firearms manufacturer in Jigawa

Department of State Services (DSS), Jigawa State Command has arrested one blacksmith in Garin Gabas Market of Malam Madori LGA, named Alassan Sabo Garba who specialised in manufacturing and selling locally fabricated firearms. The suspect is now in police net for further investigation.

During the arrest, the DSS recovered exhibits in his possession, which include: three (3) locally fabricated pistols, six (6) finished and semi-finished den guns, one (1) park of twenty-four (24) arrows, two (2) ATM Cards (Opay and FBN), four Gigabytes (4GB) memory card, one (1) fingerprint scanner (Zinox), four (4) pieces of cigarette.

Others are one (1) electric heater (burmax), and two (2) hacksaws.

Nineteen (19) pieces of knives, two (2) I.D Cards bearing Sani Alhassan and Sanu Hassan Garba, one (1) black-facing cap, Stirrer, Knife sharpener, Nokia keypad cell phone with two (2) Sim cards, one knife holder, and two thousand and fifty Naira (N2,050.00).

The suspect had allegedly been supplying hoodlums with such weapons in carrying out their nefarious activities within and outside the state.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he established a workshop in the area  about two months back, and his younger brother Haladu now at large, is the one fabricating the local weapons, while he is responsible for their disposal. He mentioned seven persons, names withheld, to have had such locally made pistols.

Investigation into the case is in top gear to apprehend all persons mentioned for interrogation and possible prosecution.

In a related development, information at the Command’s revealed that two months ago unknown persons trespassed into the official residence of the district head, of Kanya Babba town, Babura LGA, waiting to be handed over by the State Government, who stole away the items that include sixteen (16) ceiling fans, fourteen (14) window glasses, three (3) doors, three electric lamps, two (2) mats.

The Jigawa state command police public relations officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam in a statement issued to journalists said on 11 June, 2023 discreet investigations at SCID Dutse, led to the arrest of one Abubakar Chiroma alias Sadiq of Kanya Babba town and the recovery of the following items: three (3) ceiling fans, three (3) iron doors, one mat, and one electric lamp.

He said the investigation is in progress to recover the remaining stolen items and possible prosecution of the suspect.
