Police arrest 6 after raiding criminal hideout in Akwa-Ibom

On Monday, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command apprehended six individuals suspected of involvement in cult activities and drug dealing during a raid on a criminal hideout in the Afaha Offiong community, located in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, the operation led to the seizure of two bags containing substances believed to be Indian hemp, a variety of substances suspected to be cocaine, and several cocktail concoctions.

The individuals detained include Kufre Godwin Okon, Uko Monday Edet, Cyril Michael, Gabriel Effiong, Joseph Effiong Okon, and Udofia Emmanuel Udofia.

The statement detailed that this operation was part of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the state by targeting criminal elements. The raid was executed following directives from Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara, based on intelligence reports regarding illicit activities in the area.

The prompt action by the operatives resulted in the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of illegal substances. An investigation is currently underway to locate and apprehend any remaining members of the criminal group.

The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of Akwa Ibom of the command’s steadfast dedication to eliminating criminal activity in the state. He encouraged the public to report any suspicious behavior or individuals to the nearest police station to aid in maintaining a secure environment.
