Police arrest 26 suspects, recover firearms, stolen goods in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has taken 26 individuals into custody for various crimes, including homicide, sexual offences, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms. The arrests followed intelligence-led operations and targeted raids across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday at the state police headquarters in Ikeja, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, detailed some of the significant cases.
Among them was the arrest of a 25-year-old woman, Emmanuella Ogochukwu, who allegedly conspired with her younger brother and his accomplices to rob her boyfriend of three iPhones and ¦ 15 million worth of bitcoins in Okota.
Following the arrests of Ogochukwu, her brother Ogbuka Tochukwu, and several other gang members, the police recovered the stolen items along with ¦ 6.5 million in cash.
Additionally, a 74-year-old man, Aderinsola Addiths, was detained for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old girl in the Iju area of Lagos. The incident, which took place on 12th March 2025, prompted swift police action, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the case being handed over to the Gender Unit for further investigation.
In a separate incident, two alleged street robbers, Rasaki Ibrahim, also known as “Ekute,” and Okikiola Kazeem, were caught in the act of targeting pedestrians in the Amukoko area. Officers recovered a cutlass and illicit substances from their hideout.
Furthermore, an organised crime syndicate involved in armed robbery and financial fraud was dismantled after weeks of covert surveillance. The gang, which specialised in stealing cash, jewellery, mobile phones, and international passports, was apprehended in the Iju Ishaga area. The police seized two vehicles and counterfeit currency during the operation.
CSP Hundeyin reassured Lagos residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and urged the public to stay alert.
“We remain dedicated to combating crime across Lagos State and encourage residents to report any suspicious activities,” he stated.
