Police arraigns man over fake transfer

The police in Osun on Thursday, arraigned a 21-year-old man, Adejimi Adepoju, before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for fake transfer.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 3, around 3:30 pm at Block 25, shop C, new market, OAU, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant defrauded one Victor Olawale by unlawfully collecting one Iphone XR valued N180,000 and faked transfer to the owner of the shop.

He stated further that the offence contravene section 157 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to one count-charge of fake transfer.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Samuel Obi, applied for bail of the defendant in most liberal terms, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate Taofeek Badmus granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Badmus added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, must reside within the court jurisdiction and one of the sureties must be the defendant’s blood relation .

He stated further that the second surety must possess a three years tax clearance certificate and their addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.

The case was adjourned until May 16, for mention.
