Police arraign two for allegedly stabbing each other
Men of police operatives, on Wednesday arraigned two applicants in a Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stabbing one another.
The duo, John Idoko, 33 and Friday Gabriel, 35, were said to have been charged with disturbance of public peace.
It was gathered that the Prosecution Counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the defendants committed the offence sometime in April in the Kuruduma area of Asokoro, Abuja.
He said the patrol team attached to Asokoro police outpost Kuruduma village, Abuja, arrested the defendants while patrolling around black spots in Kuruduma.
During a police investigation, he said, the defendants were in one drinking shop belonging to Ameh Emmanuel when they engaged themselves in a serious fight over a mere argument. They also stabbed each other and were both taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
He said in the course of further investigation, they both could not give a satisfactory explanation of themselves.
The offence, he said, contravened the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, granted them bail with one surety each.
Mayana then ordered that the sureties must live within the court jurisdiction, provide National ID card and drivers’ licence, which should be deposited to the court and address verified by a court officer.
