Police arraign security guard on alleged theft of car battery

The Police on Monday arraigned a Security guard, Geoffrey Sunday, before a Grade 1 Area Court, Mpape, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a car battery worth N20, 000.

The defendant, who resides in Zone E extension by Agwar Tiv, Apo resettlement, Apo, Abuja, is standing trial on one-count charge of theft.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the defendant was employed as a security guard by a Market Association, dealers in automobiles.

He alleged that rather than the defendant carrying out his duties as enshrined in his contractual agreement with his employer, he dishonestly and criminally stole a car battery valued at N20, 000.

Nwaforaku told the court that the defendant confessed to having committed the crime during police interrogation having been found with the stolen item.

The matter, he said, was reported at Apo Police station by the complainant, Frank Nwarze, a security guard at the Old motor park of the dealers’ Association.

The offence, Nwaforaku said, contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Mr Salihu Ibrahim, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a reasonable and reliable surety.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 11, for hearing.
