Authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command have confirmed the arraignment in court of a 35-year-old man, Kelvin Ekuere, from Koluama community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State over alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Police spokesman, SP Asinim Butswat, said Ekuere was charged to court today.
The suspect had last month, in a confessional video made available to DAILY POST in Yenagoa, claimed to be working with one Tibiebi Woinemi Amadein, who is nephew of Chief Security Officer to the Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senator district of the State, Senator Cleopas Moses, and the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Ekuere also claimed that the gun in his possession belongs to Timiebi Woinnemi Amadein and was asked to bring it to the venue of the burial ceremony before he was apprehended by community boys and accused of plotting to kill one Chief Sele-epri Matthew, a prominent indigene of the area and Chairman of the eight host communities of Chevron Nigeria Limited exploration activities in Southern Ijaw and Brass Local Government areas of Bayelsa State under the KEFFES Rural Development foundation.
Police sources, however, said though Ekuere was arrested for alleged illegal possession of firearms, he and his boss, Timiebi Woinnemi Amadein are being investigated for alleged involvement in a purported kidnapping attempt of Chief Patrick Ekubo at Akenfa 3 community in Yenagoa, the state capital.
It was gathered that despite a series of invitations by the police, the Assistant Publicity Secretary, has not honoured it or given any written explanation for his absence.
