Police arraign man over alleged rape
The Police Command in Benue on Monday arraigned one Jighjigh Aondoaver before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for alleged rape.
The prosecutor, Inspector Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the case was transferred to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Makurdi from Divisional Police Station Vandeikya via letter No. AR:3100/BNS/VK/VOL.10/43 and dated July 18.
Shaagee said that one Aondoaseer Kenti, who resides on Opposite Way, Garage, in Vandeikya, reported the case at Divisional Police Station, Vandeikya, on July 13.
She said that the accused allegedly raped the complainant’s wife on July 11, when he sent her to deliver food to the people who were working on his farm.
Kenti said that on the said date, Jighjigh Aondoaver of Kaamem Mbayongu, Vandeikya, who is a commercial motorcyclist, allegedly took her to his house, while on the way to the farm, on the pretext that he was going to pick something.
According to him, when he took her to the house, he forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecutor said that during Police investigation, Aondoaver was arrested for committing the offence.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 284 of penal code laws of Benue.
She said investigation into the case was still ongoing and requested for additional time to complete it.
When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.
The Magistrate, Mrs Rose Iyorshe, remanded the accused at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to Aug. 29, for further mention.
