Police arraign man for allegedly stealing N150,000, assaulting woman

The Police on Thursday arraigned a trader, Gabriel Okoro, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly assaulting a woman.

Okoro, 29, resident of Orile Road, Agege, Lagos, is facing a four-count charge of assault, damage, stealing and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Insp Felicia Okwoli, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 17, at Orile Market, Orile Road, Agege, Lagos.

She alleged that there was an argument between the defendant and the complainant, Omolara Owohunwa, which led to a fight.

The prosecutor stated further that the defendant used an object to hit the complainant in the face, leading to injuries and grievous bodily harm.

Okwoli also told the court that the defendant maliciously damaged the complainant’s Tecno phone valued at N10,500 and itel phone worth N128,000.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stole N150,000 cash and a head tie worth N5,000 belonging to the complainant.

She said the offences contravened Sections 411, 173, 339(1) 278 and of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, H.B. Mogaji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mogaji adjourned the case until June 20 for mention.
