Police arraign man, 55, over alleged arson
The Police on Thursday arraigned a 55-year-old man, Agwu Oji, for allegedly setting fire to a structure valued at N400,000.
Agwu whose address is unknown is facing a two-count charge of arson and malicious damage.
The prosecution counsel, ASP. Clement Okuomose, told the Court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb 21 at about 1:00p.m at Alemu Bus-Stop Ijanikin area of Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant set fire to a structure valued at N400,000, property of one Isiaka Harisu, the complainant.
He said the defendant also damaged waste products meant for recycling valued at N700,000.
“The defendant was arrested during the act and handed over to Police for prosecution.
“The offences contravened Sections 341 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015,” Harisu told the court.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, admitted the defendant to bail of the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
