The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Abiodun Salami and Destiny Adeola on suspicion of involvement in cult-related activities in the Ijoko area of Sango-Ota, within the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area.
Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola reported on Monday that the suspects were apprehended on August 8, 2024.
Recent reports have highlighted that Sango-Ota and Ijoko have seen an increase in cult-related violence, including clashes, attacks, and killings from January revealed the brutal killing of two unidentified individuals during a suspected cult clash in Ota town.
Odutola noted that Salami and Adeola were caught after residents tipped off the police about a gathering of Eiye Confraternity members in Ijoko. The Anti-Robbery Squad responded promptly, arresting Salami and Adeola while others fled. Items recovered from the scene included a toy silver pistol, locally made amulets, and suspected Indian hemp.
During questioning, Adeola admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and revealed he was initiated in 2022 in Atan-Otan. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members. In a related incident, a suspected cult member identified as Seun was killed and beheaded in May 2024 during another cult clash in Ijoko. Seun worked as a fuel attendant in Alaroro and was killed in what is believed to be a reprisal attack.
