Police allay fear, clarifies explosion in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has said the explosion heard around the Gwagwa-Karmo road in the nation’s capital on Friday was due to a faulty tanker carrying Liquified Petroleum Gas, LPG.
Residents of the area were earlier thrown into panic over the loud explosion as the reason was not ascertained immediately.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who made the clarification in a statement on Friday, said the tanker developed a mechanical fault around Gwagwa primary school.
She said “while effort was being made to fix the fault, there was a spark which resulted in an explosion, setting the tanker ablaze”.
The PPRO, however, said no life was lost in the incident, stating that the situation was under control.
“Meanwhile, further investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the explosion has commenced and members of the public are urged to disregard any contrary narrative from any quarters and go about their lawful duties without fear of any kind”, the statement added.
