The Northern Region of Nigeria recorded the lowest average price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, in April 2021 compared to other regions in the federation.
This data was released by the Nigerian Bureau of statistics (NBS).
According to the data presented by NBS, North East region recorded an average price of N159.01 in April to edge out others.
While other regions such as Northwest, North Central, South-West, South-East and South-South region in the region had PMS sold at an average price of N166.65, N167.40, N166.25, and N170.98 respectively.
Meanwhile, State in the North-East region with highest price of PMS in April was Taraba where consumers in the state paid an average of N169.71, while Borno State was lowest in the rung with an average price of N152.30.
Other states such as Adamawa, Bauchi, Yobe and Gombe in the region had an average price of N159.30, N163.22, 157.33 and N157.11 respectively.
While disclosing how it came about the figures, the Nigerian Bureau of statistics (NBS) explained that “field work is done solely by over 700 NBS Staff in all States of the federation supported by supervisors who are monitored by internal and external observers.”
They further disclosed that “fuel Prices are collected across all the 774 local governments across all States and the FCT from over 10,000 respondents and locations and reflect actual prices households state they actually bought those fuels together with the prices reportedly sold by the fuel suppliers.”
They added, “that the average of all these prices is then reported for each state and the average for the country is the average for the state. NBS audit team subsequently conducts randomly selected verification of prices recorded.”
