…As Fayose calls Makinde leader
Abimbola Abatta, Osogbo
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is determined to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Makinde, who noted that the congress is a family affair, said it is an attempt to reposition PDP in the Southwest, adding that it has ramifications on the party nationally.
He said this on Monday while addressing delegates at the Southwest Congress at WOCDIF Centre in Osogbo, Osun State.
According to him, “This is a zonal congress, and it has ramifications for our party at the national level. If it goes well in the Southwest, be sure the future is bright for the PDP at the national level.
“This is only just the election of zonal Officials, we will put our best and they will, in turn, assist us at the national level.
“Whatever the outcome is, we will take it in the spirit of a family contest. We don’t want to defeat ourselves, we want to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
Maintaining that there would be no victor or vanquished at the end of the exercise, Makinde said, “As the only Governor of the party in the zone, whoever emerges, I will work with them to reposition the party.”
Meanwhile, Ex-Governor Ayo Fayose, while addressing delegates averred that Governor Seyi Makinde “is our leader.”
In his words, “Our supporters and lovers should not continue to put a wedge in between us.
“Either way this election goes, I will accept. Nobody has offended me and if I have offended anybody, I sincerely apologise. Seyi Makinde remains our father come what may.”
