PDP Zonal Congress: Arapaja emerges Chairman

A former deputy governor of Oyo State , Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja  on Monday emerged as the chairman of PDP, Southwest Zone, in the just concluded election.

Recall that Taofeek Arapaja is Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde’s candidate while Eddy Olafeso is ex-governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose’s candidate.

Arapaja polled a total of 343 votes, narrowly defeating his opponent, Dr Eddy Olafeso, the immediate zonal chairman of the party, who gathered 330 votes.

The election was held on Monday at the venue of the PDP Zonal Congress, WOCDIF in Osogbo, Osun State.

Arapaja, in his victory speech, thanked Governor Seyi Makinde and Former Governor Ayo Fayose saying, “it is our party. We will work together and move the party forward.

“We want to reposition the party. I will work with my brother Olafeso to achieve our aims.”

Meanwhile, Olafeso who gracefully conceded defeat promised to work with Arapaja.

According to him, “The storm is over; there is a new beginning for our party.

“We have to thank God almighty that despite odds, there is a new beginning for our party. The time is now. I thank everybody who supported me.”
