The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State has received some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Idanre Local Government Area of the State.
Members of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the same locality also switched to the ruling party.
The defectors cited the lackluster performance of their respective former parties during the last general election as the primary motivation for their decision to join the APC.
According to them, their dissatisfaction with their previous parties’ inability to effectively manage their affairs compelled them to seek an alternative political platform.
Prof John Jejelola, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, disclosed that the party structures of the PDP and the SDP in Idanre had been dissolved and merged with the APC.
He stated that the move will consolidate the ruling party’s strength in the state, while simultaneously weakening the opposition’s footing.
Highlighting the outstanding achievements of the APC state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, a native of the local government, Jejelola emphasized the pivotal role played by Adetimehin in attracting the defectors to the APC.
While accepting the defectors to his party, the State Chairman of the APC, Adetimehin, who is also from Idanre Local Government, revealed that the chieftains of the PDP who defected to his party were the people who always gave him and his party a tough time during elections.
He declared that with their defection to his party, the APC would be having a field day in all elections in the local government.
