The PDP caucus in the House of Representatives has pitched tent with its Senate counterpart to issue a six-week ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari in order to address insecurity or face removal.
The majority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, after a meeting of the National Assembly PDP caucus, gave the hint on Thursday.
The meeting which was held at the National Assembly Complex was chaired by the Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda (PDP, FCT). There were over 20 lawmakers in attendance.
Although, the meeting was held under a closed-door, Mr. Elumelu briefed journalists on the resolution reached after the meeting.
He maintained that members of the House would not hesitate to present a formal impeachment notice against the president, should insecurity remain unabated in the country.
It has been earlier reported that the lawmakers staged a walk out of the upper chamber after the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, disallowed a motion on insecurity and impeachment of Buhari.
Mr Elumelu further said that the lower chamber will commence the collation of signatures to trigger impeachment proceedings against the president if the security situation is not put under check at the expiration of the six- week ultimatum.
He noted that Mr. Buhari has ignored all recommendations of the lawmakers in proffering solution to insecurity in the country.
According to him, the impeachment move is in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, provided it gains the approval of 2/3 of the members.
The move for impeachment is far from partisan politics, he cleared.
