The Buhari Campaign Organization (BCO), Sunday said the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd), has not in any way, ‘abdicated’, his responsibilities of administering the security architecture of Nigeria, to warrant the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) recent statement calling for his sack.
The BCO’s National Coordinator, Alhaji Danladi Pasali, said in a press release that the PDP lacks the moral compass to call for Magashi’s sack.
He said the PDP has for the umpteenth time deliberately, decided to pick the minister out of context, in show of their mere political quackery, politicising the country’s security situation, which they failed to manage having worsened it in their 16 years of mis-governance.
“For the record, the PDP should have appreciated that the minister was trying to encourage Nigerians, to be firm and courageous in the face of bandits or insurgents, thereby contributing to the efforts of our able men and officers of the security operatives”, it further said.
The BCO said General Magashi’s thoughts were, “It is the responsibility of everybody to keep alert and to find safety when necessary. But we shouldn’t be cowards,” does not mean to say our security is incapable of defending their co-citizens.”
He stated that the minister’s comments that the security agencies were stretched did not in any way connote that he has abdicated his responsibility.
“On the issue of resources to fight insecurity, the PDP should not hastily forget that Nigeria’s resources to the tune of $2.3bn meant for our security were mercilessly shared for the 2015 electioneering under the watch of the PDP led federal government, a situation that has led us to where we are, battling with its bad-governance, which has remained fresh in the minds of Nigerians,” it said.
According to him, had the PDP done what was rightly expected of it, providing good governance, our security situation would have been so awesome to write home about, alas, the contrary is today the opposite.
“It is further on record that amidst dwindling resources, the Buhari led administration is doing far better than the 16 years of the PDP’s misgovernance, in terms of security equipment and personnel welfare.
“It is instructive, to state that going by the PDP’s antecedents, it lacks the moral compass to call for the sacking of the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd),” the statement said.
