PDP crisis: Govs overturn suspensions of Ologunagba, Ajibade, restore unity in party
…No crisis exists within Party – PDP Acting Chair assures members
In a wake of restoring unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the governors have rescinded the recent suspensions of the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
This decision followed twin meetings held on Monday and Tuesday in Enugu under the aegis of the PDP Governors Forum (PDP-GF), led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Governor Mohammed addressed the media post-meeting, emphasising the resolution of the suspensions: “On behalf of the PDP Governors Forum, the Chairman of the Senate Caucus, and the representative of the Board of Trustees, we wish to reaffirm that there is no faction in the PDP. All suspensions you heard about have been resolved.”
He affirmed that the party has reverted to the status quo prior to the National Working Committee’s (NWC) actions, and that critical organs will meet to discuss the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for October 24.
“There is no party without challenges, and some of these are legal matters,” Governor Mohammed noted, adding that grievances should not overshadow the party’s unity.
“We must set aside personal feelings for the greater good of the PDP.”
In his comments, PDP Acting National Chairman, Damagum, reinforced the message of unity, stating, “There is no crisis in the party. The governors are our leaders and the key organs of this party.”
The suspensions stemmed from Ologunagba and Ajibade’s support for local government elections in Rivers State, which contradicted the party’s national stance.
In a retaliatory move, Ologunagba had announced the suspension of Acting Chairman Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, further escalating tensions.
The recent decisions by the governors come at a critical time for the PDP, as the party seeks to consolidate its structure and prepare for upcoming electoral challenges. Governors in attendance included those from Bauchi, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, Oyo, Osun, and others, all emphasising the need for solidarity and cooperation within the party ranks.
Governor Mohammed, urging party members to focus on the common goal noted, “The PDP is the only party we have. We should make sacrifices and come together.”
